English 621: we have a quiz on April 14th on Acts 1-3 of Macbeth as well as the vocabulary. Our next novel study assignment will take place in class on Tuesday, April 19th.
English 521: currently, Ms. Tuplin (UPEI student teacher) is working on The Merchant of Venice with you. Journal assignments as well as final assignment has been given out with rubrics, so make sure you ask questions if needed.
English 521: Your descriptive paragraphs are due tomorrow at the beginning of class. Make sure the writing is well-edited, typed and double-spaced. Include rubric with the assignment.
English 621: Your Formal Outlines are due tomorrow by the end of class. Remember though, the earlier you can get it in, the sooner I will get it back to you. Make sure your thesis statement is concise, organized and clearly states your position on the topic.
English 621: We have completed a persuasive essay and an essay analysis. The Research Essay assignment is now underway. Your Formal Outline is due on March 4th (Friday). As well, you should confirm your first independent novel choice by tomorrow, Mar, 1st.
English 521: We have completed a section on poetry and are now, working on short fiction. You have a descriptive paragraph assignment due on Friday, Mar. 4th. Remember to seek assistance along the way if you are having any difficulties with the assignment.
English 521: all Introductory Poetry Assignments have been marked, entered into SAS and returned to you. Thank you for sharing the information that you did. You need to confirm your top 3 novel choices by the end of the class on Tuesday (Feb. 16).
English 621: your persuasive essays are due at the beginning of class on Wednesday, February 17th. Make sure to refer to your rubric carefully, edit the writing thoroughly and seek assistance from me if needed. We will continue watching the documentary, That Sugar Film on Tuesday as well.
Due to the storm day today, just an update on assignments.
English 621: Just make sure you have read article on being late with a page to a page and a half written response. It doesn’t have to be typed, but edit writing and make sure it well written. As well, if you haven’t already done so, pass in signed Course Outlines and complete and pass in Getting to Know You handout.
English 521: The Poetry assignment will now be due on Wednesday instead of Tuesday so that I have time to show you a sample and answer any questions. Some class time will be given on Monday to work on assignment. As well, make sure to pass in signed Course Outline and complete and pass in Getting to Know You handout if you haven’t already done so.
Finals are upon us and it is very important to finish each course as strongly as you can. For English 621 and English 521, here is an overview of the expectations:
English 621: The Formal Debate will take place on the assigned exam time slot with one group in each class going on the last day of class – January 25th. Each person is responsible to pass in a Formal Speech with a Works Cited page in MLA format by Friday, January 22nd. Rhetorical devices need to be labelled in the speech. Students will be evaluated individually. It is not a group mark.For the day of the debates, students need to come in with prepared rebuttal notes and will also complete jot notes during the debate. Those will be passed in following the completion of the debate. The explanation of the debate as well as the evaluation rubric was passed out so everybody should have a copy of it. Seek assistance early on if you are struggling and be accountable to your group members.
English 521: The Panel Discussion assignments will take place on the assigned exam time slot. Groups have been formed and each person should have their individual topic with which to prepare a 3 minute speech. Students will be evaluated individually. It is not a group mark. Notes and a Works Cited page in MLA format is due on Monday, January 25th. On the day of the exam, notes must be prepared on cue cards in point form.The explanation of the Panel Discussion as well as the evaluation rubric was passed out so everybody should have a copy of it. Seek assistance early on if you are struggling and be accountable to your group members.
English 621: On Monday, we will be completing our last novel study assignment. Make sure to come in with a plan and to refer to the Evaluation Rubric when constructing the assignment. We will continue with Macbeth Act 3 group work on Tuesday. Socratic Seminar or video re-enactment is scheduled for Dec. 8th.
English 521: Reminders that the Research Essay is due on Dec. 3rd. Everybody should have had an opportunity to conference with me by now. Make sure to follow the Evaluation Rubric carefully and to seek assistance when needed. We will be starting The Merchant of Venice on Monday. Please bring the text to class with you.
